Entering the 2007 Marion Bermuda RaceDear Captain, Thank you for your interest in the 2007 Marion - Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race. Read these instructions carefully as the information we request is essential to your acceptance. Don't hesitate to e-mail the individuals listed at the bottom of these Instructions if you need assistance. This year we have a new web-based registration system that is easier to use and should help you communicate with us and your crew. It is called Regatta Manager and can be found by pressing the "Enter the Race" button. We have a two-part entry process: Part 1 tells us about your yacht and the Captain's and Navigator's experience. This information enables our Selection Committee to make an informed decision about your cruising yacht and the overall safety of your entry. When your entry is accepted we will send an electronic link to Part 2 where you can complete the rest of the required forms with vital information about the balance of your crew, EPIRB numbers and so on. You'll find all the forms, time tables, waivers and the like that you'll need to complete in order to be on the starting line this June 15th. Almost all the forms that we require are electronic. This means that either you or someone associated with your entry must be able to communicate with us on this website. We strongly recommend regular visits to the website to read announcements, amendments, and advisories to our Notice of Race, the Sailing Instructions and other documents. We will send out regular email updates whenever an important new document is posted. Since our first contest in 1977, the Marion - Bermuda Race has upheld its founders' vision that it be a race for cruising yachts and one with amateur captain and crew. We have upheld those two guiding objectives ever since. Read Section 7 of our Notice of Race, "YACHT ELIGIBILITY AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS", to ensure that your yacht qualifies. If you have any doubt about any aspect of your yacht's eligibility, please e-mail your questions to our Selection Committee for a prompt decision. We will try to work with you, but regrettably, the Committee has had to turn down a few entrants for past races. If you're confident that your yacht is acceptable, fill out the Application to Race, answering every question, and submit it to us. There is an entry "wizard" that will help you follow through the required steps. You will be able to pay the entry fee using the secure credit card facility. You can track your progress by looking on the Requirements page of the entry system. That's all you need to do for Part 1. Our Selection Committee will review the Entry and notify you promptly of your acceptance. In some cases additional information may be requested. If you have an AMERICAP II Certificate, please be sure that it is valid for 2007 as it must be renewed annually. If not, please start the process by telephoning US SAILING's Offshore Department at 401 683 0800. If your yacht's data is on file, you should receive your AMERICAP II Certificate approximately four weeks later. There is also a link to the electronic application in the 2007 Race Documents. The "International Sailing Federation Special Regulations 2006 - 2007" (ISAF) booklet is such a valuable guide to yacht preparation. There are links to this material for both monohulls and multihulls in the Notice of Race document. US SAILING's website, www.ussailing.org has interesting material as well. Our Inspectors have compiled a document called Comments on ISAF Regulations which discusses specific requirements for the 2007 Marion to Bermuda Race. We will evaluate your Entry Form, and if you're approved, we will send you the link so you can complete the remaining information forms. The entry fee is not refundable once your application is approved, although in the unlikely event that your application is not accepted, we will refund your payment. Best wishes and good sailing!
