Introduction to Celestial Navigation

Ocean NavigatorApril 11-12, 2015: A hands-on, fast-paced introductory course covering theory and practice plus navigation basics and dead reckoning will heal at Sippican Women’s Club, 152 Front Street, Marion MA. Sextant use and repair are discussed (but no sights actually are taken during the class in Marion). Emphasis is on practical celestial with plenty of pencil and paperwork. Class alumni have won the Marion Race and done numerous celestial-only ocean crossings.

Marion to Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race

Start: Friday June 19, 2015

Marion-Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race Association, Inc.

Marion, Massachusetts, USA

Marion to Bermuda Cruising Yacht Race will start in Buzzards Bay off Marion, Massachusetts, and finish off St. David’s Head, Bermuda.

Since its inception in 1977, the Marion-Bermuda Race has been a Corinthian event, and yachts are accepted by invitation. The spirit of the race is that all yachts and crew are participating for the joy and pleasure of sailing, competition, and the camaraderie that accompanies such an off-shore event. The race provides an opportunity for cruising yachts and amateur crews to participate in an ocean race and a rendezvous in Bermuda. It encourages the development of blue water sailing skills on seaworthy yachts that can be handled safely offshore with limited crew. Prizes are awarded in various categories with a bonus for celestially navigated yachts.
